Indiana Copyright Litigation: Three New Lawsuits Allege Infringement of “Mechanic: Resurrection”

Hammond and Indianapolis, Indiana – A copyright litigator for Plaintiff ME2 Productions, Inc. of Carson City, Nevada filed three new complaints in Indiana federal courts alleging copyright infringement.

Plaintiff asserts that a total of 25 as-yet-unknown Defendants infringed the copyrighted movie “Mechanic: Resurrection,” which stars Jason Statham, Jessica Alba and Tommy Lee Jones.  The movie has been registered with the U.S. Copyright Office under Registration No. PA-1-998-057.

In its complaints, Plaintiff contends that Defendants were traced to Internet Protocol addresses in Indiana using geolocation technology.  Two lawsuits were filed in the Northern District of Indiana; one was filed in the Southern District of Indiana.

As in its previous Indiana copyright litigation regarding this movie, Plaintiff states that a “screener copy” of the film was leaked and illegally distributed on the internet via BitTorrent, a file-sharing protocol.  Each complaint states a single cause of action: copyright infringement.

Plaintiff claims that the Defendants’ actions constituted willful and intentional infringement.  It asks the court for injunctive relief, statutory damages, costs and attorneys’ fees.

The first case was assigned to District Judge Theresa Springmann and Magistrate Judge Paul R. Cherry in the Northern District of Indiana and assigned Case No. 2:16-cv-00468-TLS-PRC.

The second case was assigned to District Judge William T. Lawrence and Magistrate Judge Tim A. Baker in the Southern District of Indiana and assigned Case No. 1:16-cv-03020-WTL-TAB.

The third case was assigned to District Judge Joseph S. Van Bokkelen and Magistrate Judge Michael G. Gotsch, Sr. in the Northern District of Indiana and assigned Case No. 3:16-cv-00764-JVB-MGG.
